Yasiin Gaye – “Anna’s Love Song” (Soul Mates Tribute)

Beat amalgamator and soul purveyor Amerigo Gazaway is threatening errrr…. planning to release an album of mashups featuring the incomparable Marvin Gaye and veteran rapper/vocalist Yasiin Bey fka Mos Def. With the unfortunate name, Yasiin Gaye, Gazaway expands on his “Soul Mates” series. While the first taste, “Inner City Travelin’ Man,” was promising yet convoluted, I cannot keep up the charade after repeated listens to “Anna’s Love Song.”

  1. The art for the track is haunting in a bad way. It’s a love song, but Anna Gordy looks like a spinster aunt. I wouldn’t fuck with that with Marvin’s decomposed dick.
  2. The production starts fine enough then devolves into a fucking mess the moment Snoop’s voice appears. I don’t need West Coast fuckery in a Marvin tribute. Then Gazaway starts integrating other Mos Def songs. Now it’s just a stew with too many flavors. Let the beat ride for fuck’s sake.
  3. The more I listen to this, the more I would’ve like this better as a 3.5-minute track with one Mos verse. Not Mos Def from 4 different chapters of his career.
  4. Thanks for the worthless voiceover. Yeah we get it, there’s a reason for the song. Save that for the album. Release an edit for us.
