Chromeo – “Jealous (I Ain’t With It)”...

Another heat rock from Chromeo’s next album, White Women. Cop the album when it drops....

Mar – “A Simple Go”...

For an R&B track made by an artist known for employing 4×4 dance beats from an EDM label, “A Simple Go” by Mar is refreshing burst of sublime energy. His label, Bad Manor is releasing his latest two singles as an EP, Form. Like all his music, Mar is not beholden to one prescribed style. He pulls from both the electronic and soul genres to make his own unique creation. BTW, the lady up top is from his website. I found pictures of the dude, but…man, this music is good!...

Blaqstarr feat. Common – “Dear Diamond”...

Is this TV on the Radio? Is this Labi Siffre on main vocals? Why is Common “singing” tone deaf like Aloe Blacc on this record? Blaqstarr has grown far from his martial beats and autotuned vocals. After producing for M.I.A. and Rye Rye while growing the Baltimore dance sound, this song is a “radio-friendly” departure. Man, couldn’t he have gotten Mos Def to sing Common’s part?...

Beyonce feat Jay-Z – Drunk in Love (Diplo Remix)...

This track is a heater! Diplo can take anything and turn it into something that you want to flip tables over when you listen to it. This is a pretty good example. Check it out...

Little Dragon – “Klapp Klapp”...

This is definitely more of a Teddie band than something for my taste. I dig the initial kick drums and upright bass action. Then the synthy overtone is cool. The vocalist kinda breaks it for me. She sounds too much like Kelis for her not to be Kelis. I’ll still fuckwiddit. From the upcoming album by Little Dragon, Nabuma Rubberband. Whatever that means....

Soulblime – “Wildfire” (SBTRKT Ft. Drake & Little Dragon cover)...

sick cover of a dope little dragon tune

Chromeo feat. Toro Y Moi – “Come Alive” (Onra Remix)...

aww shit it’s almost the weekend! so to celebrate, here is a funky remix of an already super funky track

Alpines – “Oasis”...

A man can’t live on rap alone. Good thing when I’m in music discovery mode I can count on sources to keep feeding good shit to listen to. OnSmash supplied some brand new heat from Alpines, a London electronica group with a secret weapon: the lead singer, Catherine Pockson. She can sing with conviction, as she does in last year’s single “Lights.” But in “Oasis” there is a vigor and clarity to her voice that rides perfectly over the production of her musical partner, Bob...

BANKS – “Brain”

It’s a been a NY minute since BANKS dropped her fascinating London EP. Last night BANKS blindsided her fans with the art for upcoming single on Instagram. Now the pressure is on. Does the single live up to her past successes? It does. But does BANKS take an evolutionary step towards carving out her own sector in the crowded singer/songwriter electropop set? She does. I am sure Lorde comparisons are inevitable. This a not a fully-realized record, but the importance is established her niche. I know her best is yet to come, and I’ll keep...

Duck Sauce – Duck Droppings EP...

Louie Louie Louie Lou-EEEE Louie Louie Louie Lou-AHHH Whether picking through Boney M‘s catalog or staging an elaborate mockup of The Midnight Special, Duck Sauce (Armand Van Helden and DJ A-Trak) have been injecting a bit of kitsch in the “serious” world of house music. OK so house music is not serious stuff, but its devotees are very resolute in legitimizing the genre beyond club anthems and background filler. That is the appeal of all the Duck Sauce tracks: melody and hooks. Once just the anchors of pop music, even Duck Sauce’s throwaway tracks grab you and get you...

Tycho – “Montana”...

To transport one’s mind out of body through music is a formidable task for any artist. While pop music is made to make people feel some type of way, Tycho makes atmospheric music awashing the listening in dulcet tones and long strings. Some of his songs feel lifted straight from the ocean surf or a moonlit walk. “Montana” is bit more jangly than his previous work; an appreciated iteration that still stirs the mind into motion. There’s more tempo and defined movements flowing into each other. Never lingering, always...

Banks – “This Is What It Feels Like”...

One of my new favorites. Banks is poised to blow up in 2014. (Clash...
