Childish Gambino – “What Kind Of Love” Mar13

Childish Gambino – “What Kind Of Love”...

Back in December an unfinished version of “What Kind Of Love” from Childish Gambino leaked to the massive. Speculation was that the acoustic track would be a bonus cut on a deluxe version of Because The Internet. Four months later that was not the case, but Bino was alerted that the track was being sold on iTunes anyways. His response: i saw that someone is selling this on iTunes. i gave this away for free since it’s incomplete and a rough. thought it was wack someone did that without my permission. so i put it up here. And here we are....

The Alchemist & Budgie feat. Action Bronson, A$ton Matthews, and J.Rocc – “With My Soul” Mar12

The Alchemist & Budgie feat. Action Bronson, A$ton Matthews, and J.Rocc – “With My Soul”...

I don’t know know much influence The Alchemist has on Budgie’s production methods, but this beat is a fucking banger. I haven’t heard horns that crisp and forthright on a rap song since “The Funeral” hit the massive. And Bronsolini gets first crack at this cacophony with this line: What if Allen Iverson was Chinese riding on a Harley? What the fuck is that? The microphone can barely handle the intricate bars of non sequitir verbal wordplay. A$ton Matthews continues to impress me as a gruff counter voice to Action’s rapid delivery. Budgie’s album is available at this link. I am inferring that the production is gospel-based. And it definitely works as source material....

Daft Punk feat. Jay Z – “Computerized”...

I made a casual check of my Twitter feed and Black Twitter feed and saw this tweet from FKA Hot Karl about a Daft Punk track produced by Kanye featuring Jay Z. Daft Punk ft. Jay Z, produced by Kanye? *every white person drives into freeway median* — Jensen Karp (@JensenClan88) March 10, 2014 A quick Google search later led to a slew of brand new stories linking the track. And many doubted the authenticity of the track like MissInfo and Consequence of Sound. The first clue are the anachronistic bars from Jay-Z (hyphen intentional) mentioning iTouch and Blackberry phones. Plus there are commenters “screaming” that the soundbed is a loop of “Son Of Flynn” with some computerized vocals. Whatever the outcome of legitimacy of this track, it will join the long list of Kanye tracks of questionable lineage or unwillingly leaked to the massive. And by the way, ((((PAUSE)))) on Jay trying to hit them high notes. It ain’t Common bad, but let the singers sing and rappers rap. The 20th anniversary of Gang Starr’s Hard To Earn Mar08

The 20th anniversary of Gang Starr’s Hard To Earn...

Below this are my words, but you’ve got to check the extensive and incredible feature article from Daniel Isenberg (@StanIpcus). Yeoman’s work! 1994 — Back in NYC I was riding the train to JFK to meet up with a girl flying in from Houston. I had just picked up the Hard To Earn CD, and it was on repeat in my Sony Car Discman. And it was early in the morning. I’m talking 4am-ish on a Saturday. But walking the streets of Manhattan, sitting alone on multiple trains, ascending to the streets of Queens at sunrise, Hard To Earn was the perfect soundtrack. Guru’s lyrics resonated in my mind, especially “The Planet” because his story about leaving Boston for Brooklyn mirrored my trek from Houston to Manhattan. It still affects me. I may not have accomplished what I truly wanted to do in New York, but the dream persists. I still move forward towards that goal. If there is a difference between rap then and now, rappers were willing to detail the struggle in a non-glamorous way. I’m not discounting MCs like J Cole, Big Sean, or the like who tell great stories of coming up in the world. I just know for me, Guru represented the kid who made good. And for the record, Step In The Arena is still my Gang Starr album of choice. It was their album I bought. I played it constantly for months and months. I know the tracks in and out. It was the album I played when I was a high school kid. Hard To Earn was the growth and the culmination. I was really mad back in the day about how Gang Starr wasn’t a bigger group in popularity. Now I am just happy these...

Iggy Azalea feat. Charli XCX – “Fancy” Mar06

Iggy Azalea feat. Charli XCX – “Fancy”...

This is how I learned about the new video from Iggy Azalea and Charli XCX via normal ass vanilla Twitter. Iggy Azalea honors "Clueless" with new music video: https://t.co/dPEHn988Hr (best if watched on mute) — Olivia Nuzzi (@Olivianuzzi) March 4, 2014 …followed by this Iggy Azalea making her music video out of scenes from Clueless is my favorite thing ever: http://t.co/MgBajo5erx (via @Olivianuzzi) #90s — Amy K. Nelson (@AmyKNelson) March 4, 2014 These are my thoughts while listening to the song. I tried to not watch the shameless Clueless callback. My notes as punctuation and capitalization optional. “First things first, I’m the realest.” If you have to tell me, you ain’t that. female French Montana rooftop like we bringing ’88 back – Nas homage or bite? Charli XCX’s voice is a shrill counterpoint to Iggy Azalea’s contralto rapping voice Shrill has a bad connotation. I can’t think of a better word for Charli. Her voice just cuts through the jerk beat. And I really like Charli XCX as an artist. Iggy Azalea is the best white girl rapper Charli XCX has worked with so far. I hate the beat drop threat of “Tipsy” in the first verse. Chingy’s career should stay dead and buried. (Jacked from MTV Buzzworthy…go there for more animated...
