Beyoncé – “Formation”

It’s been about 12 hours since Beyoncé tore the muthafucker down and evicted all the wannabe queens striving for her throne. “Formation” is not an especially great track. It stammers and stalls, builds then destroys, echoing Beyoncé’s ethos of self-empowerment. For Beyoncé’s fans, this track is everything and more, but for Queen B the impeccable timing of the “Formation” single and video underscores her business savvy. After all, “Formation” is also a method to sign people up for Tidal. Ha! Got eem! Produced by Mike Will Made-It and co-written by Swae Lee of Rae Sremmurd, “Formation” feels more like a collection of Instagram-ready quotes framed amongst gif-ready set pieces. In the video directed by Melina Matsoukas, even Blue Ivy makes a bold appearance as a stand-in for a Destiny’s Child redux. Amid tragically flooded scenes of New Orleans and Los Angeles soundstages, Beyoncé is still effervescent and impossibly more gorgeous at 34. Quick thoughts. Off top…where did all that tiddymeat come from? Blue Ivy been grown. Inquiring minds want to know, but I ain’t mad. I appreciate you, Beyoncé. I doubt any chemicals have touched Blue Ivy’s head. It’s gonna be a damn shame when B gets a bigger pop from the Super Bowl crowd than Coldplay or Bruno Mars during the Super Bowl 50 halftime show. Funny how Rihanna’s ANTI album release is an accident, but Beyoncé’s video and single release are calculated and done correctly. Shoutout to the Illuminati conspiracy fuckbois who still think Black folks are part of the Illuminati. Stop that! My homie, Ken, mistook the lyric “Okay ladies, now let’s get in formation” as “get information,” which, at first, sounded funny, but considering the double meaning of getting in line for battle (formation) and gaining knowledge (information), I think it all works. Beyoncé never forgets Houston. That’s why her city loves her unconditionally. “Foundation” can be downloaded for free. And you can get a 90-day free trial of Tidal. What a...

BOOTS feat. Beyoncé – “Dreams” Apr25

BOOTS feat. Beyoncé – “Dreams”...

BOOTS is the mysterious (read: unknown) producer/songwriter who worked with Beyonce on her smash self-titled album released last Christmas. Rather than picking up more producing gigs, BOOTS is determined to make his own path as a complete artist. For the balance of 2014, he has been leaking excellent track after track of his projected WinterSpringSummerFall mixtape. This ethereal record in particular also has a special cause attached to it. By purchasing this track, you can support DayOneNY.org, an organization “working with youth to end dating abuse.” All around good...

Beyonce – Drunk in Love (Weeknd Remix) Feb16

Beyonce – Drunk in Love (Weeknd Remix)...

Here’s the latest remix of Beyonce’s hit “Drunk In Love”. This one is a bit different as there is no Bey or Jay in this remix. It’s the Weeknd crooning over the beat while putting his own flavor to the lyrics. I dig it. Check it below. Shouts to The Fader for the...

Beyonce feat Jay-Z – Drunk in Love (Diplo Remix)...

This track is a heater! Diplo can take anything and turn it into something that you want to flip tables over when you listen to it. This is a pretty good example. Check it out...

Beyonce feat. Jay Z and Kanye West – Drunk In Love (remix – clean) Feb14

Beyonce feat. Jay Z and Kanye West – Drunk In Love (remix – clean)...

An actual remix allegedly. Sounds a bit chopped and screwed. Still has the original’s beat and melody with Kanye’s verse shoehorned in front then Beyonce and Jay. Not a complete mess like the Power (remix). This could get some radio spins. (The Angie Review via...
