Future – EVOL Feb06

Future – EVOL

In 2016 a recording artist cannot rest. Your new material can quickly becomes yesterday’s forgotten material. The pace makes swaths of music feel disposable. Last night I wrote about Young Thug’s I’m Up mixtape and Wiz Khalifa’s Khalifa LP leading this weekend’s releases. So Future sitting with position raised the stakes by releasing EVOL for purchase one day later. And marketing plan was already in play as DJ Khaled promised to play EVOL during his new Beats 1 Radio show premiere. Future and his cohort producers Metro Boomin, DJ Esco, Southside (I’m assuming… liner notes would help). Look you know and I know that Future has refined his flow in this mellifluous cadence. Outside of The Weeknd on “Low Life,” there are no features to muck up the zone your mind enters. Because unlike the uneven releases by the aforementioned artists, Future creates a cohesive, tightly sequenced album. Once Abel’s tenor cuts through “Low Life,” you’re now 9 tracks in wondering why your shoulders are sore. But the highlight is the album’s finale. “Fly Shit Only” opens with a guitar solo before the drums crash down on the melody. This is Future’s stab at stadium status plying deeper in the perverted and paranoid mind of Nayvadius. EVOL is available on iTunes and Apple Music. I guess I could link something here, but all the YouTube links are bullshit sped up/slowed down fuckboi quality. I know. Here is the most ridiculous hook on EVOL courtesy of Future on “Xanny Family.” An instant hip hop quotable (and trending topic) for all the wrong reasons. 3 exotic broads and I got 'em soakin' panties
Told 'em they were certified, welcome to the xanny family
Wow, wow
Wow, wow
3 exotic broads and I got 'em soakin' panties
...

DJ Khaled feat. Chris Brown, August Alsina, Future, and Jeremih – “Hold You Down” Aug11

DJ Khaled feat. Chris Brown, August Alsina, Future, and Jeremih – “Hold You Down”...

For years DJ Khaled has managed to assemble rappers together to do features on tracks he may have produced. As long as Khaled throws in a “We The Best!” verbal watermark, the uncaring public knew that the next 4-6 minutes will be filled with a somewhat hot track slathered with mediocre or hand-me-down rhymes and possibly a melodic hook. Khaled has managed to convince the most popular contemporary rappers in the world to rap on his records: Lil Wayne, Drake, Rick Ross, Ludacris, Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, and many more. So in that same vein, he has assembled the best most popular(?) R&B contemporary crossover singers(ish) of 2014. But really, the song is outshined by the sheer ridiculousness of DJ Khaled’s wooden acting ability. I don’t think he’s acting. I believe Khaled demands his girlfriends to say his name on command. I believe all the alcohol and headphone product placement is reproduced in his own house with stacked boxes of promotional loot. And when Khaled says to the girl that he’ll “hold you down,” I know he thinks it means that he will support her. But by the word’s other definition, Khaled will hold, as in prevent her from ascending, her down mentally, financially, spiritually, and physically The thankless actress who endures Khaled’s “say my name” queries. The shitty New Edition re-creation. The slow motion smash cuts of bathwater, lingerie, and fuckniggery. The endless pointing, preening, and wingflapping of all the singers. You get all of this and a song of such little consequence that I won’t even talk about it. Enjoy the “headsario” (Khaled’s word, I think) and his 4 hired singers warbling over a typical 2010s radio friendly production. “Hold You Down” is the first single from the I Changed A Lot...

Future feat. Kanye West – “I Won” Apr08

Future feat. Kanye West – “I Won”...

A not-really love song dedicated to Future’s girl, Ciara, and Kanye’s fiance, Kim Kardashian. Not as gutter as his fantastic single, “Move That Dope” with Pusha T and Pharrell. Not as earnest as his first single “Honest.” Not as sincere as (my personal favorite) the mixtape track, “Substitute Everything.” “I Won” is available on iTunes. (MissInfo)...
